General-Purpose Inverter

Overview

A general-purpose inverter is a device that provides highly accurate, variable control of the speed of a motor. Inverters are widely used in industrial equipment such as construction machinery, food processing equipment, conveyors, printing presses, fans, and pumps. The trend in recent years has been toward more diversity in inverter designs, with added features like Ethernet or USB interfaces to enable remote control. General-purpose inverters have achieved greater levels of performance and become smaller as their usage has become more widespread.

Renesas Electronics is facilitating this trend by offering the RZ/T1 Group, RX71M Group, RX64M Group, and more MCUs and MPUs. These 32-bit RISC devices are ideal for converter control applications because they incorporate various peripheral functions such as timers and interrupt controllers, as well as Ethernet, USB, and serial interfaces. Renesas also supplies other semiconductor components for inverter applications: control TRIACs, IGBTs, etc. Advanced functionality, high performance, reduced power consumption, and lower cost characterize the products offered.
