Overview
The RL78/L13 Group and R8C/Lx Series MCUs from Renesas have an IH control timer (timer KB2 or timer RC) function with PWM suitable for IH control. This is designed to enable IH control using a simpler circuit configuration. IGBTs are used for IH drive, and TRIACs are used for steam drive, body heater drive, cover heater drive, and fan motor drive. In addition, there is a trend toward stricter restrictions on harmonic components in the input current of electrical products. Renesas also has a lineup of PFC power supply IC products (Power Factor Correction ICs) that are effective in suppressing harmonic components.
