Gas Ring with Safety Function

Overview

Recent gas stoves use semiconductor components such as microcontrollers (MCUs) to implement safety features as required by the law. The contents of the law and regulatory status vary from region to region; in the case of Japan, the following are defined as essential safety features.
(1) Cooking oil overheat prevention (turn off the gas if the temperature of the pan bottom reaches about 250 degrees),
(2) burner safety device (turn off the gas if the flame goes out during cooking). In addition, a voluntary standard of the Japan Industrial Association of Gas and Kerosene Appliances is the
(3) out early prevention device. To prevent the cooking oil overheat prevention feature from turning off the gas prematurely, the out early prevention device reduces the strength of the flame when 250 degrees is reached during cooking, and starts regulating the temperature. It can even prevent the gas from turning off prematurely if a frying pan is excessively preheated, or if temperature rises too high during stir-frying.
(4) Auto off function. Safety feature for preventing fire and other accidents caused by forgetting to turn off the burner. It turns off the gas after a certain period of time has passed.

In order to realize these functions, devices such as the following are incorporated into the system.
(A) A microcontroller equipped with a multi-channel A/D converter,
(B) a low offset operational amplifier for interfacing with the microcontroller and thermocouples,
(C) a thermistor and its associated circuitry, and
(D) valves and a valve control circuit.

Renesas offers the RL78/G13 Series and RL78/G14 Series of microcontrollers with built-in buzzer output circuit, D/A circuit, comparator, a number of A/D input ports, and so on, capable of controlling all of the above using a single microcontroller. We also offer the RNA51 series as the reset IC for monitoring the microcontroller, the 2SB1475 transistor for small signal amplification for driving a valve, and other products.
