Overview

Electric shavers differ from razors that come in direct contact with the skin in their lower risk of dry and rough skin and lack of necessity for shaving foam. For these and other reasons, the demand for electric shavers is close to 100 million each year.

There are a variety of system configurations. In recent years there have been waterproofed products that incorporate a secondary battery in the main unit, and products that automatically charge and clean themselves when placed in the charging stand.

Renesas offers the RL78 Families and R8C Families and others as system control microcontrollers and LCD display microcontrollers for satisfying the needs of complex shaver systems such as fine motor control, battery control, LCD display, and RF communication. Single-chip battery control ICs, MOSFETs, power control ICs, and so on are also available for meeting the demands for high functionality, high performance, low power consumption, and reduced costs.
